Strategic social media

As the director of communications at the UNC School of Social Work, I launched our organization into the realm of social media and continue to manage and grow our presence there.

In 2008, the School of Social Work was among the education world’s early adopters of Twitter as a vehicle for promoting the School, distributing our news stories, and connecting with people. Our social media efforts have since grown to include Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google+, Flickr, faculty and student blogs; and the news blog I developed, Contact Magazine, which heavily incorporates social media to not only push news out to the public but to bring people into our website.

Those following my School accounts on social media include current and prospective students, current and prospective faculty, alumni, members of the news media, other colleges and schools of social work, and the UNC community.

My social media strategy has attracted national attention in the social work community. NASW News, based in Washington, D.C., featured me in a lead article in its newspaper and website, distributed to all members of the National Association of Social Workers.
